Banger Button can follow VirtualDJ and suggest what to play next. Its one-time setup may require a VirtualDJ restart, so complete it before a gig.

Connect and test

  1. Open VirtualDJ on the same computer at least once and connect your music drive.
  2. Open Banger Button and choose gear menu → DJ Software → VirtualDJ.
  3. If the one-time setup banner appears, save your work and restart VirtualDJ when you are not performing. This enables current deck information and Do Not Play alerts when a matching track loads.
  4. Load and play a known local track in VirtualDJ. Open Home in Banger Button and check the artist and title.
  5. Check a recommendation’s version and test a local file drag into VirtualDJ.

If the displayed song is delayed

The setup banner offers a history-based fallback: in VirtualDJ, open Settings → Options, find historyDelay and set it to 1. This speeds up now-playing detection from history. Do Not Play warnings on load still require the one-time restart after Banger Button installs its deck connection.

In a history-based view, Currently Playing and Last Played are not necessarily two live deck readings. Check the displayed song names before choosing a recommendation.

If there is still no connection

  • Check that VirtualDJ is selected, its library exists and the music drive is connected.
  • Use the Home screen’s Refresh or Retry control when offered.
  • If Banger Button reports denied access on Mac, check the named app’s file or removable-volume permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Relaunch at a safe break.
  • Test with a local file. A streaming result is not a local file that Banger Button can drag.

Keep your working VirtualDJ database and music files intact while troubleshooting.
