Scanning lets Crate Hackers match crate songs to files you already have. Use the desktop app for local music.
Set up your library
- Connect any external music drive. If files are stored in a cloud folder, make sure the actual files are downloaded to this computer.
- Open Settings → DJ software and select the software you use. Choosing software does not replace scanning your music folders.
- Open Library → Music sources. You can also reach Music sources under Settings.
- Choose Add Folder and select a folder containing your music files. A playlist file or shortcut is not the audio library.
- Let the import finish, then open Library → Files and search for a song you know is in that folder.
Success looks like: the song appears with the expected file location. Scanning reads your library; it is separate from tools that copy or recycle files.
When you add more music
Watched folders can detect changes. In Music sources, use the folder’s Rescan control (or Sync when changes are shown) when you need to refresh it. Add a new source if the music is in a different folder.
If files are missing
Confirm the drive is connected and open the original file in Finder or File Explorer. Check that its folder is listed in Music sources. Avoid scanning backup copies of the same library unless you intend to include them.
Scan time depends on file count, drive speed and file availability. Start with your main working folder; there is no need to scan the entire computer at once.
