Crate Hackers has a lot of useful tools, but your first job is simple: build one crate, export it, and test it.

Start small: Do not try to fix your entire music library on day one. Get one useful crate into your DJ software first.

What this article covers

This article gives you the simplest way to start using Crate Hackers without getting overwhelmed.

You will learn how to:

  • Choose your DJ software
  • Scan your music library
  • Build one simple crate
  • Export the crate
  • Test it inside your DJ software
  • Know what to explore next

Crate Hackers can do a lot.

You do not need all of it immediately.

Start with one clean workflow.

The simple workflow

Your first Crate Hackers workflow should look like this:

  1. Log in
  2. Choose your DJ software
  3. Scan your music library
  4. Build one simple crate
  5. Export and test it in your DJ software

That is enough to get started.

Do not try to fix your entire music library immediately.

That is how a quick setup turns into a three-hour folder therapy session.

Plain English version: The first win is not a perfect library. The first win is one crate that opens inside your DJ software and plays correctly.

Step 1: Log in

Open Crate Hackers and log in with your account.

If you do not have your login details, check your email for a message from:

help@cratehackers.com

Once you are logged in, you will land on the main dashboard.

Step 2: Choose your DJ software

During setup, choose the DJ software you use most often.

Common options may include:

  • Serato
  • Rekordbox
  • VirtualDJ
  • Engine DJ
  • Traktor
  • djay Pro

This helps Crate Hackers guide you toward the correct export workflow later.

You do not need to understand every export option right now.

Just choose the software you actually use.

Step 3: Scan your music library

Next, go to:

My Music

Then click:

Add Folder

Choose the folder where your music files live.

This might be your main music folder, an external hard drive, or a clean folder you use for DJ music.

After adding the folder, let Crate Hackers scan it.

Scanning helps Crate Hackers read your music and understand what songs you already have.

Important: Scanning does not move, delete, or rename your files. It simply lets Crate Hackers read your library.

Step 4: Build one crate

Do not start with your whole library.

Start with one real use case.

Good first crate examples:

  • Wedding Warm-Up
  • Cocktail Hour
  • Club Opening Set
  • 2000s Throwbacks
  • Clean Pop Set
  • Dinner Music
  • Country Bar Starters

Pick something useful.

Then build a small crate around it.

A good first target is:

25 to 50 songs

That is enough to test the workflow without creating another giant mess.

Step 5: Review the crate

Before exporting, review the songs.

Check for:

  • Wrong versions
  • Missing tracks
  • Songs you would not actually play
  • Duplicates
  • Songs that do not fit the event
  • Songs with the wrong energy

Do not treat the crate like a finished set just because the app helped build it.

Crate Hackers gives you a better starting point.

You still make the final call.

Step 6: Export the crate

Once the crate looks right, click:

Export

Choose the export option that matches your DJ software.

Depending on your setup, export options may include:

  • Serato
  • Rekordbox
  • VirtualDJ
  • Traktor
  • Engine DJ
  • M3U playlist

If your software uses playlist imports, follow the export guide for that platform.

Step 7: Test inside your DJ software

After exporting, open your DJ software and confirm the crate or playlist appears.

Then test it.

Make sure:

  • The crate appears
  • The song order looks right
  • Tracks load correctly
  • No files are missing
  • The versions are correct
  • External drives are connected if needed

Do this before the gig.

Not during the gig.

The dance floor does not care that file paths are complicated.

What to explore after your first crate

Once you have completed the basic workflow, you can start using more Crate Hackers tools.

Good next steps:

  • Use Mixable Crates for structured song ideas
  • Use Trending Charts to spot songs currently getting attention
  • Use Spotify Import to bring in public playlist ideas
  • Use AI Duplicate Killer to clean duplicate tracks
  • Use Folder Flattener to organize scattered music folders
  • Use Re-sync when you add or move music

Learn these after your first successful export.

Not before.

Best beginner rule

Start with small wins.

Do not try to:

  • Scan every forgotten folder immediately
  • Clean every duplicate on day one
  • Build 20 crates at once
  • Import every playlist you have ever liked
  • Rebuild your entire DJ system in one sitting

Crate Hackers works best when you build confidence one workflow at a time.

Recommended first session

For your first session, do this:

  1. Log in
  2. Choose your DJ software
  3. Add your main music folder
  4. Let the scan finish
  5. Build one crate
  6. Save it
  7. Export it
  8. Open it in your DJ software
  9. Test a few tracks

Once that works, you understand the core workflow.

Everything else builds from there.

Common mistake: trying to clean the whole library first

Library cleanup is useful, but it does not need to happen before you get your first win.

You can build and export a crate first.

Then come back later to clean duplicates, flatten folders, and improve your Library Health Score.

Cleanup matters.

Momentum matters too.

Common mistake: skipping the test

Always test the export inside your DJ software.

Do not assume the crate is ready just because it exported.

Check that the tracks load.

Missing files are usually caused by moved files, renamed folders, disconnected drives, or songs that were never actually in your local library.

A quick test prevents most surprises.

Worth repeating: Export first, then test. Do not discover missing files while someone is waiting for you to play the next song.

Quick checklist

Before you move on, make sure you can:

  • Log in to Crate Hackers
  • Choose your DJ software
  • Add your music folder
  • Scan your library
  • Build one crate
  • Save the crate
  • Export the crate
  • Open it in your DJ software
  • Test that the tracks load

The main idea

The best way to start with Crate Hackers is simple:

  1. Log in.
  2. Choose your software.
  3. Scan your music.
  4. Build one crate.
  5. Export it.
  6. Test it.

Do that once and the app starts making sense.

After that, you can explore Mixable Crates, Trending Charts, Spotify Import, AI Duplicate Killer, Folder Flattener, and Re-sync.

Start with one useful crate. Build from there.
